BHB and Ketone Salt Words Explained A to Z: What They Mean on the Burntide Label
Words like BHB, ketone and ketosis are easy to mix up. This glossary explains each one in plain English. After every word it says what the word means for one Burntide gummy.
BHB stands for beta-hydroxybutyrate, a ketone body the body makes when carbohydrate runs short. Burntide lists BHB calcium, magnesium and sodium salts inside a 525 mg blend with apple cider vinegar. Studies of BHB salts used grams, and the BHB share of the blend is not published. So ketosis is not an expectation.

- BHB on the label: BHB calcium, magnesium and sodium, written as B-hydroxybutyrate salts.
- Blend: 525 mg in total with apple cider vinegar. The split is not published.
- Studies: BHB salt studies used doses measured in grams.
- Minerals: calcium 1 mg, magnesium 0.75 mg and sodium 2.5 mg, all by-products of the salt form.
- Ketosis: a diet or fasting state. A 525 mg blend cannot produce it.
General information, not medical advice. Burntide is a dietary supplement for healthy adults aged 18 and over. It is not a drug, it is not FDA approved, and no supplement is. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take medicine, are under a physician’s care, or are pregnant or nursing, ask a doctor or pharmacist before use.
Why do BHB and ketone words confuse so many people?
Because the same few words are used for very different things. A ketone meter, a diet, a powder and a gummy all use the same vocabulary. A shopper sees BHB on a jar and assumes the product does what a ketone diet does. That is a leap.
The jar itself is plain. It lists the salts inside a 525 mg blend and it prints five support statements. Below, each word is set beside what the label actually offers.
What do the ketone words A to F mean?
- Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB)
- A ketone body. The liver makes it when carbohydrate is short, as in fasting or on a ketogenic diet, and tissues including the brain can use it as fuel. On the Burntide panel it is written as B-hydroxybutyrate salts.
- Blood ketones
- The amount of ketone bodies circulating in the blood. Taken in quantity, BHB salts raise them. That has been measured directly. A ketone meter reads blood ketones, which is a different thing from how the body uses fat.
- BHB calcium, magnesium and sodium
- The three mineral forms of BHB named on the label. The mineral is what binds to the BHB and makes it stable as a salt.
- Exogenous ketones
- Ketones that come from outside the body, as a supplement, instead of being made by the liver. The studies cited on this website are about this group.
- Fasting
- Going without food for a time. One of the two ways, with a ketogenic diet, that the body makes its own BHB.
What do the ketone words G to M mean?
- Gram dose
- An amount measured in grams. Every BHB study cited here used gram doses. One Burntide gummy holds a whole blend of 525 mg, which is roughly half a gram, shared with the vinegar.
- Ketogenic diet
- A way of eating that makes the body produce ketones. If you follow one, or already take a ketone product, adding Burntide is stacking. The label cannot tell you by how much.
- Ketone body
- The family name for compounds like BHB that the body can burn as fuel when carbohydrate is short.
- Ketone salts
- BHB bound to a mineral, usually calcium, magnesium or sodium. Burntide lists all three.
- Mineral load
- The calcium, magnesium and sodium that come with a BHB salt. At study doses the load is large enough that tolerability studies exist. At one gummy it rounds to 0% Daily Value.
- Mineral salt
- A compound of a mineral and another substance. It explains why calcium, magnesium and sodium are on the panel at all.
What do the ketone words N to Z mean?
- Nutritional ketosis
- A state produced by diet or fasting in which the body relies more on ketones. A short rise from a supplement is a different thing wearing the same word. A 525 mg blend cannot produce nutritional ketosis.
- Proprietary blend
- A group of ingredients listed under one total weight. Burntide shows 525 mg and does not say how it divides between the vinegar and the BHB salts.
- Stacking
- Taking two products that contain the same kind of ingredient. This is the main interaction question for anyone already using a vinegar or ketone supplement.
- Stomach upset
- The commonest complaint in ketone salt work, seen at gram doses. It is unlikely from the BHB at this size.
- Study dose
- The amount used in a trial. The word to watch on any label. A claim is only as strong as the match between the label dose and the study dose.
How do ketone salts compare with other ketone forms?
People often search for ketone salts vs esters. This website can only speak to the salts, because Burntide lists salts. The sources used here do not compare salts with other forms, so no comparison is given. If you are weighing forms, ask a pharmacist.
| Item | On the Burntide label |
|---|---|
| BHB calcium | Named, inside the 525 mg blend |
| BHB magnesium | Named, inside the 525 mg blend |
| BHB sodium | Named, inside the 525 mg blend |
| Any other ketone form | Not listed |
| Amount of each BHB salt | Not published |
| Study dose in grams | Not reached by a 525 mg blend |
Are there sodium BHB or calcium BHB benefits in a gummy?
Searches for sodium BHB benefits and calcium BHB benefits usually expect a list. The honest answer is short. The label prints five support statements about normal body processes. It does not print a benefit for any one salt.
The research on BHB salts looks at blood ketones, blood glucose and tolerability at gram doses. A review of ketone supplements for physical performance did not find a convincing case. A salt trial in healthy adults and another in adolescents tracked safety markers and reported nothing alarming at study doses. None of this was done with a gummy, and none was done at milligram scale.
Plain reading: the compound is real, the studies are real, and the amount in one gummy is nowhere near them.
How should you use these words when you read any ketone label?
- Find the amount of each BHB salt. If it sits inside a blend, you cannot compare it with a study.
- Check the unit. Milligrams and grams are very different sizes.
- Count the minerals. A big salt dose means a big mineral load.
- Ask whether you already take a ketone or vinegar product.
- Take the jar to a pharmacist if you use medicine, especially anything that touches blood sugar.
The label asks for the same care. It says anyone under a physician's care or taking medication should consult a healthcare professional first.
Frequently asked questions
What does BHB stand for?
BHB stands for beta-hydroxybutyrate. It is a ketone body that the liver makes when carbohydrate is short. The Burntide panel writes it as B-hydroxybutyrate salts.
Does Burntide put you in ketosis?
No. Nutritional ketosis comes from diet or fasting. Studies that raised blood ketones with BHB salts used gram doses, and the whole Burntide blend is 525 mg.
Why are calcium, magnesium and sodium on the Burntide panel?
They are by-products of the BHB salt form. The amounts are 1 mg, 0.75 mg and 2.5 mg per gummy, each at 0% Daily Value.
How much BHB is in one Burntide gummy?
Not published. BHB shares a 525 mg blend with apple cider vinegar, and the label does not split it.
Are there sodium BHB or calcium BHB benefits in Burntide?
The label prints five support statements and no benefit for a single salt. The research on BHB salts used far larger amounts, and no trial of the gummy exists.
Is it safe to take Burntide with another ketone product?
That is stacking, and the label cannot tell anyone by how much. Ask a pharmacist before combining them, and ask a doctor first if you take medicine.
Our view
BHB is a real compound with a real research record. The trouble is the match between the research and the jar. Studies used grams. The jar holds a shared 525 mg blend. The words on the label are accurate, and the leap from word to result is the part to avoid.
Use this glossary as a decoder. If a page uses ketone words to promise a state your body will enter, ask for the dose. If the dose is not published, the promise cannot be checked.
For most healthy adults the practical question is small: do you want a daily gummy before a meal, knowing the BHB share is unpublished? If you take medicine or follow a ketogenic diet, ask a professional first.
