Who Should Not Take Burntide: Six Honest Exclusions

Two of these six are printed on the Burntide bottle and four come from reading the panel properly. All of them are settleable in under a minute, and every one of them costs this website money.

A Burntide jar seen close and tilted, front label readable
The front label says thirty gummies and a dietary supplement. The exclusions are on the back, in smaller type, and they are the part of the bottle worth reading first.
The short version
  • Six groups should not buy it, and two of those six are on the printed label rather than added by this website.
  • Each gummy carries 2 g of sugars, 1 g of it added, with corn syrup and cane sugar named on the panel.
  • Apple, beet and corn derivatives are all present in the other ingredients, which is where allergens live on any supplement panel.
  • A 525 mg blend cannot produce nutritional ketosis, whatever the ingredient name suggests.

General information, not medical advice. Burntide is a dietary supplement for healthy adults aged 18 and over. It is not a drug, it is not FDA-approved, and it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you are under a physician’s care, take any medicine, or are pregnant or nursing, speak to a clinician or a pharmacist before using any product on this shelf. Nothing on this page replaces that conversation.

Why a seller publishes an exclusion list

Because a page that can only describe its ideal customer is describing its marketing. The list below costs this website money every time somebody reads it and closes the tab, and that is the only reason the rest of the site is worth anything.

It is also the more useful half of the question. “Who is this for” produces a paragraph anybody could write about any product. “Who should not buy this” produces six specific, checkable statements, and you can settle most of them from the panel in under a minute.

The two exclusions the label itself prints

Two of the six are not this website’s opinion. They are printed on the bottle:

“If you are under a physician's care or taking medication, consult with your healthcare professional before using this product. If you are pregnant or nursing, or have a known medical condition, do not use without consulting a physician.”

The printed Burntide label, revision REV 04/24

Pregnancy and nursing are named directly. Anyone under a physician’s care or taking medication is told to consult a professional first, which is a condition rather than a suggestion. The supplier adds the third: healthy adults aged 18 and over, and not for anyone under 18.

What the label says, and what it means in practice.
Printed on the labelIn practice
“If you are pregnant or nursing... do not use without consulting a physician”Do not buy it on a website’s say-so. Ask somebody who knows your pregnancy
“If you are under a physician’s care or taking medication, consult...”The full version of that conversation is in the medication article
“Keep out of the reach of children”A jar of sweets on a kitchen counter is not self-explanatory to a child. This is literal
“Do not use if safety seal is damaged or missing”The one hard rule on the bottle. It is an instruction, not advice

Reproducing a caution block verbatim costs a seller nothing except the temptation to soften it.

Anyone avoiding added sugar entirely

This is the exclusion most often left off a supplement page, because it sounds trivial and it is not trivial to everybody.

The Burntide panel declares 2 g of total sugars per gummy, of which 1 g is added sugar, at 2 percent of the Daily Value. The other-ingredients line names corn syrup first and pure cane sugar third. That is entirely normal for a gummy and it is a fact anyone counting added sugar is entitled to have before they pay.

For most people one gram a day is nothing at all. For somebody who has been told to account for every gram, or who is managing a condition where that matters, it is a decision rather than a footnote, and it is theirs to make with the number in front of them.

Anyone allergic to apple, beet or corn

The other-ingredients line is the part of a supplement panel almost everyone skips and the part most likely to contain the thing they react to. Here it is in full:

Corn Syrup, Purified Water, Pure Cane Sugar, Apple Pectin, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Tapioca Starch, Natural Flavors, Beet Root Powder

  • ›Apple pectin is the setting agent, which is also what makes a vegetarian claim possible
  • ›Beet root powder is the colour
  • ›Corn syrup is the first item listed, so it is the largest of the non-active ingredients
  • ›Citric acid and sodium citrate are the tartness and the buffer
  • ›Tapioca starch stops the gummies sticking together in the jar
  • ›Natural flavors is a regulatory term rather than a description, and the label does not say which

That last line is worth flagging. “Natural flavors” is legally defined and descriptively empty: it does not tell you what the flavour is derived from. If you have a flavour-related allergy that is a question for the manufacturer rather than for this website, and the contact page explains which desk can chase it.

Anyone expecting ketosis from it

Beta-hydroxybutyrate is the ketone body, and the ingredient name invites exactly this assumption. Being blunt about it: the assumption is wrong.

Nutritional ketosis is a metabolic state produced by diet or by fasting. Exogenous ketone salts can raise circulating ketones temporarily, which has been measured directly across several formulations (Falkenhain 2024), and the effect on blood glucose has been pooled across the literature (Falkenhain 2022). Every one of those studies used doses measured in grams.

The whole blend in one Burntide gummy is 525 mg, which is roughly half a gram, and it is shared with the vinegar. There is no reading of this panel on which the product delivers a studied ketone dose, and anybody telling you otherwise is not reading the label. The mechanism page works through it in detail.

Anyone who needs a dose they can check

If the reason you were buying this is that vinegar has a research record, then the question you actually care about is how much vinegar is in it. The panel does not say.

Apple cider vinegar and the BHB salts share one 525 mg proprietary blend and the split is not published. It could be mostly vinegar or mostly BHB and the panel would read identically either way. The trials behind vinegar used 15 to 30 millilitres of liquid a day (Hadi 2021), which is an order of magnitude more acetic acid than this blend can hold at any split.

Products that print every milligram exist in this category and are easy to find. That is a real recommendation and it costs this website money, which is exactly why it is on the page.

The people who should ask rather than avoid

Six groups should not buy it. A larger group should ask somebody first, which is a different answer and a more common one.

Ask a professional first

  • Anyone taking prescription medication of any kind.
  • Anyone under a physician’s care, including for something that seems unrelated.
  • Anyone with a diagnosed condition affecting blood sugar, the stomach, the kidneys or the heart.
  • Anyone already taking a vinegar or ketone product.
  • Anyone with existing dental erosion or sensitivity, because a chewable sits on the teeth.
  • Anyone with surgery or a procedure booked in the next fortnight.

Do not buy it

  • Anyone under 18.
  • Anyone pregnant or nursing, unless a physician says otherwise.
  • Anyone avoiding added sugar entirely.
  • Anyone allergic to apple, beet or corn derivatives.
  • Anyone buying it to reach nutritional ketosis.
  • Anyone who needs to compare milligrams before buying.

The left-hand column is mostly a five-minute conversation at a pharmacy counter, and how to have it is its own article.

Who it does suit

For balance, and because an article that is only a list of noes is not useful either. It suits a healthy adult who eats at broadly regular times, wants one small thing to do before a meal, will actually take it daily, can wait three to six weeks before judging it, and has read the sentence about the blend and bought anyway.

Plenty of real people fit that description. Seven of the eight reviewers this desk publishes describe exactly that: a habit that stuck. The full version is on who it suits.

The honest summary

Two of the six exclusions come from the bottle, two come from the panel, and two come from being honest about what a half-gram blend can and cannot do. None of them is a judgement about the product being badly made, and all six are settleable in under a minute from information printed on the label.

If you are on that list, no discount changes it. If you are not, the routine is on the how to take it page and the sixty-day window is on the guarantee page.
